Goodenough Gismo

  • Gismo39
This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

I've prayed for both of you.

He still looks tough and handsome.

He's watching you drizzle oil in the fish eggs!

Ruth Anne

Where's his own? I can't see it! Oh, he's holding it!

Well, yes, Ruth Anne, we've all called it our "own." I tend to call it Gorzon, Lord of The Universe myself, but, hey, that's just me...

Yeah, it wasn't easy but I resisted demeaning a noble photograph by saying, "If he thinks I'm gonna hold it for him he's got another think coming!"

After 35 years, that look still scares the shit out of me.

RW Rogers

I can believe that, David! Glad both of you are doing OK, amba.

michael Reynolds

He's got like 30 years on me and rides a wheelchair and I still maintain he could take me down in about 3 seconds.

Yeah, well, he'll never take Annie down. She's tougher than the whole bunch of us (if you know what I mean by... tough.)

Meade, that toughness is at the center of Annie's considerable charm!

What a fabulous, fascinating face! I wish I knew him.

Upon further study, I notice how one eyebrow goes up...the other down! Kind of an infinity sign, cut in half lengthwise...

Makes him look like he needs a question mark thought balloon!

"What tha!?!"

...drip, drip...

I'm pretty sure I suck for posting my previous comment.

But maybe not, at least not so much, for thinking it.

Ron: So true.

reader: No no, it's time for coffee. I'd rather have it perq'ed but thanks.

You know- in this world it's so hard to find a true soulmate. Amba, you and J are good for e/other. You are both stronger for the union.
