Goodenough Gismo

This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

Inevitable.

Ex-Congressman Foley says he was molested by a priest. Why did I see this coming? I thought, "Foley's an Irish name, he's Catholic, he's going to blame it all on the priest who seduced him when he was a lad." (I do wish I'd written it down.)

Now the "values crowd" -- or wait, I'm getting confused, is it the "anti-religion crowd"? -- can start a diversionary debate on whether homosexual seduction at a critical age turns a boy gay, or whether it only gives an already gay boy a time-bomb taste for tender young flesh when he's priest age.

Jeez, it's really confusing which way this scandal cuts.
