Goodenough Gismo

  • Gismo39
This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

It sounds like Boomers just wanna have fun and know it would take hard work to really "feel good about themselves." I'll wager they're more in love with the IDEA of losing weight or writing a book than actually doing what you'd have to do to do it. Projecting, no doubt. :)

I've done 9 of the 10. Can I go ahead and die now?

Shouldn't you tell us your top 10 now, Annie?

Americans are so superficial! My goal is really important -- catch up on sleep!

Most of mine are either unspeakable or unprintable, Michael. Losing weight is not among them, however.

I'm not even 50, but I'm pretty preoccupied with 1, 2 and 7...

I don't think you should be ashamed of your desire to do Deepak Chopra. He's a perfectly attractive man.

I haven't yet made much headway on the list I made in middle school, which included such oddities as learning how to yodel, juggle and speech yiddish (I kid you not), so I'm not really in a position to comment.

Still, I can't resist this one, aimed at my older (by five years and more) BB siblings:

So much for idealism!

I'm always trying to get myself to eat 5-6 helpings of fruit & vegtables & drink 8 glasses of water.

The 8 glasses of water is quite hard for me. When does one have time to drink 8 glasses of water?

Geoduck, make it one big bottle instead... ;o)

Is there something wrong with me? I never made a list. Which makes me wonder, what was on their lists 30 years ago?

I still haven't decided if I'm a boomer or not. I was born on the backside of the bell curve, so I've always felt more like I was in the boomers' shadow.

Well, I don't particularly boom, but I paid off my mortgage ten years ago at age 45 (and paid in full for successive homes), am happy to maintain my current weight, and have no interest in any of the other top ten.

No interest in #4 or anything prefixed by "Cruise-" whatsoever. It ain't gonna happen.
I'm from the backside-curve too and have never belonged-to or identified-with the Boomers - I couldn't care about their feelings, secret-yearnings, or desire to live to 100 - and the EONS thing about makes me sick - I really just wish they would go the hell away.
