This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

Alert to David Foster Wallace Fans, Right-Wing Talk Radio Foes

Our niece Rachel at Pomona College, who's taken DFW's fiction course (and is now interning for Arianna Huffington), lets us know:

David Foster Wallace will be appearing on Monday Night Live, the call-in talk radio show that I co-host, tonight (2/27). He'll be talking about conservative talk radio, which he wrote an article about last year for the Atlantic Monthly... it's also in his new book of essays.
The show airs from 10-11pm PST [1-2 AM EST, alas] and you can listen live at www.kspc.org.
