Goodenough Gismo

  • Gismo39
This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

A few comments...

One, the Republicans seem to be doing a heck of a lot more spending than the Democrats ever did...only difference is they're paying on credit.

Two - redistricting reform would be great, it really should be geographically based. I'm worried because now that the Republicans screwed a few more seats out of Texas they're leering at California to do the same thing...

Three - the abolition of the electoral college would go a long way to change the way presidential elections are run. Instead of focusing just on swing states they'd have to be popular everywhere.

The thing that bothers me most about both parties is that it always seems that their social conservatism falls far to the right of their fiscal conservatism. Why can't we have a party of social liberals who can balance a checkbook but don't want to dictate what people can do in their bedrooms?
