Goodenough Gismo

This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

Monster Cookie

A box of six weighs over two pounds. One would probably provide enough caloric fuel for a day of full-out lumberjacking. I gave one to Ethan yesterday, in the middle of studying for his law-school exams, and he was still thinking about it this morning. They're Levain Bakery's chocolate chip cookies, and they are so awesome that they are shipped all over the country. They're saved from the accusation of mere supersizing by their exquisite quality. They'll never make you obese, they're too satisfying. One is as good as a binge. If you love a chocoholic, give them Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookies and they'll marry you.
