This just arrived in a free e-mail newsletter I get (willy-nilly) called, of all things, "American Capitalist." Note that no source is given for this story, so it's posted with a large grain of salt pending doing my own DD. (For all I know the story is all over the 'Net and the dailies and has already been either bunked or debunked -- there's another ObsPos! -- I'm a bit out of it today.)
It looks like the Bush Administration may have been taking a page from the reality T.V. book when it captured Saddam Hussein––and then re-filmed it for dramatic purposes. That is, if you believe the account of a former U.S. marine that suggests otherwise. And we do.
According to this former marine, who reportedly took part in capturing Hussein, “The public version of [Saddam Hussein's] capture was fabricated.” Apparently, Saddam was really taken into custody on December 12, 2003––not on December 13, 2003 as reported. The marine adds that, “We found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced.” The best part, according to the eyewitness, is that, “…a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well.”

DUHHpdate: A Google search and is my face red: Michelle Malkin, and just about everybody else, like Outside the Beltway covered this story two days ago. (Told you I was out of it.) The ex-marine, of Lebanese descent, broke his accusation in a Saudi paper. How fishy does that sound? The Pentagon has called it "ridiculous" and untrue. The story is already a political football, with left blogs liking it and right blogs mocking it. Without more corroboration, though, it will fade quickly.
