Seven of Me-Me!
I mean, Meme of Seven. I've been tagged by Dave Schuler of The Glittering Eye (honored, mate). I became less conflicted about doing these things (and calling them "memes," what the hell) once I figured out that they are really just a pretext to cross-fertilize the blogosphere. Actually, now that I go to make that link, I see that I did this exact same one before, except a fifth rule has been added which is most interesting. What the hell. I'll try to be creative about who I link to.
So here are the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
5. Present an image of martial discord from whatever period or situation you’d like.
I have chosen an image from James Thurber's incomparable The Last Flower, which I first read as a small child. You can see the whole book at the link.
1. My hands and arms look exactly like my father's, only smaller. (In honor of Father's Day.) Only one of my thumbs curves backward the way both his do, but that's because I jammed the other one in karate class some 20 years ago.
2. Although I've been a city kid all my life, I can't think of any of the happiest moments of my life that took place in a city -- except for one, and that was in Moscow. Well, OK, maybe one or two in New York. I lived there for almost 40 years, it would be hard to avoid. It would be a good meme to list the, say, five happiest moments of your life. Mine are not great life events -- those are extended symphonies of complex feelings. Moments of pure happiness are more like haiku:
Feet dangling off a
roof six stories up, I watch
fireworks face to face
3. I am fascinated by the little and big things each of us knows -- about life, ourselves, other people -- that we can never tell. Not even in a "brutally honest," intimate, confessional memoir. (Stop here and think of three of yours. A silent meme within the meme.)
4. Somewhere (I think) I still have the scrap of paper on which I scribbled down the idea and name for this blog in August 2004. Each year I mean to scan it for my blogiversary, and forget.
5. I cannot trash e-mails from my closest friends and family, even if they are only a few words long. I save them all. It borders on the superstitious.
6. (Scraping the bottom of the barrel, I snatch a leaf from Dave's book -- "One of my ancestors was" -- even though I have an awful feeling I've used it in a meme before:) One of my ancestors was a kosher chicken slaughterer who committed suicide. (Shades of this.)
7. I will pick the almonds out of a can of mixed nuts and enjoy it more than if you gave me a can of almonds.
OK, now to tag seven people. I'm doing all girls today, just because I can.
1. Donna at Opining Online (it's your lucky day! it's your second of the day!)
2. Ruth Anne at The Maternal Optimist
3. Christy at Dry Bones Dance
4. Contained Obsession
5. Janet at The Walrus Said
6. Mamacita at Scheiss Weekly (you must see her Quotation Saturday)
7. Bitterroot at Bitterroot and Bergamot (who may respond in images)
UPDATE: Rats, I meant to link Melinda at Brunobaby too!! So that's eight, so what?
And do not miss Ron's. Do like he did, and consider yourself tagged if the spirit moves. .

I had about 80% of my post written and all of a sudden it disappeared. I'm overworked and overwhelmed right now, so I'm going to have to take a pass on this, too.

I finally got around to posting! I had trouble coming up with that 7th thing, but was inspired by your #7. Thanks.
