Goodenough Gismo

  • Gismo39
This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

Some lines of poetry come out a lot better than others.

amba

Yeah, she couldn't handle "'Twas brillig and the slithy toves . . ."

Theo Boehm

She's just a bot, but she's so hot.

She's very good with Valley Girl talk, but falls apart beyond that. She says "lied," as in having told an untruth, like the German word for song. But when given the phrase, "Das Lied von der Erde," she pronounces it as the past tense of fibbing in English, and leaves off the final "e" in "Erde." Oh well, I suppose it's not necessary for your voicemail bot to say, "Bush lied," or to spout German.

I'll try some Lord of the Rings on her tomorrow. I wonder what she'll make of Elvish.

Ruth Anne

I had her "say" this:

Toucha toucha toucha touch me. I want to be der-er-er-tee

and it made me laugh out loud.

david

I followed Ruth Anne's general protocol. I've never laughed so hard in my life. I'm still gasping and crying.

I thought the link was going to Ann Coulter.

Horace Jeffery Hodges

Best line goes to Chuck B.
