Goodenough Gismo

  • Gismo39
This is the classic children's book, Goodenough Gismo, by Richmond I. Kelsey, published in 1948. Nearly unavailable in libraries and the collector's market, it is posted here with love as an "orphan work" so that it may be seen and appreciated -- and perhaps even republished, as it deserves to be. After you read this book, it won't surprise you to learn that Richmond Irwin Kelsey (1905-1987) was an accomplished artist, or that as Dick Kelsey, he was one of the great Disney art directors, breaking your heart with "Pinocchio," "Dumbo," and "Bambi."

They are always waiting around the herd -- i.e., kitchen -- watching for the weakest to stumble. Wonderful picture and post! :-)

What a great pic! Ours have been quite deprived since we went veg awhile back. I think our dog actually went through a depression. This picture reminded me of what they are missing, poor things. I guess just like you can't choose your parents, pets (well, except *some* cats) can't choose their servants... I mean People.

Maria: hope you're giving your cats some fish- or meat-based cat food. You probably know that dogs can go veg, but cats can't. There's an amino acid called taurine, found only in animal protein (including fish), that they can't make in their own bodies and if they develop a severe deficiency of it, they go blind.

They both get meat-based food, even the dog. It's our table scraps they miss, and the smells of us grilling up steaks or chicken. Interesting about the amino-acids. My vet actually mentioned this yesterday, since the kitten has been eating a lot of the dog's food. Apparently, the dog food (even though meat based) doesn't have all the amino acids the cat needs. So now the dog's going to have to learn to clean her plate, so the kitten will clean his own. :)

Thanks! I certainly want to keep these guys as healthy as they can be.

Quite the ambitious feline there... *sits back in admiration*
