A sorrowful way to spend Memorial Day. Among the things we are being compelled to remember (read the story):
- War can do this to men.
- The fact that it is understandable does not make it permissible or excusable.
- The impulse to cover up causes a wound to fester and stink, not heal.
- Therefore: a free press is a vital organ of a free society, even in wartime.
