I knew there had to be people out there talking about forming a new political party -- in the center, not on the fringe. They just couldn't find each other. Well, here's an articulate essay on just that subject, by Barney Lerten of Bend.com (that's Bend, Oregon), guestblogging at UtterlyBoring.com. (Thanks, Booker Rising.) Lerten's take on the kind of independent, radical-middle citizen legislators who'd populate such a Common Sense Party: "They would be the scariest type of politician - unpredictable."
I still maintain that Barack Obama -- arguably a brilliant centrist -- is the one politician who has enough juice right now to make this dream real. It's an awfully big career risk to ask a rising Democrat star to take, though. Maybe if George Soros kicked off the funding . . .

I highly doubt Obama would ever do anything of the sort. And he's a centrist in speeches only. His actual voting record is with the Democratic party 98% of the time if I recall correctly.
